DPP gives terms for Kidero-Shebesh charges withdrawal

Cecil Miller for Shebesh and Tom Ojienda for the Governor said they had both seen the DPP position and that their clients were willing to present themselves to the police to withdraw the complaints. The lawyers said they needed a week for the formalities and asked to return to court on February 28 to report on the progress made. Dr Kidero will be required to visit the Central police station where he made a report on an alleged assault while his counterpart Shebesh will go to the Parliament Police station where she filed her complaint. The two leaders clashed in September last year after Ms Shebesh led demonstrators to Dr Kidero’s office during a go slow by county workers over pay. Ms Shebesh had accused the Governor of slapping her while Mr Kidero claimed he had been attacked in his groin area. On January 1, the DPP received an investigation file from the police and wanted the leaders charged with creating a disturbance and assault respectively but they rushed to the High Court and obtained stay orders against their arrest pending court appearances. While the cases were pending determination, the two leaders publicly declared they had buried the hatchet and were willing to withdraw their complaints. Last week, a judge said the onus lay with the DPP. This article was published by the DAILY NATION on February 21, 2014]]>
