A television evangelist’s wife yesterday recounted how senior police officer allegedly threatened her family, making them part with Shs 1 million to win their freedom . Evangelist Pius Muiru’s wife, Lucy told a Nairobi court that they were arrested by a police reservist and a constable who told them that Mr Muiru was wanted by Interpol for some crime he had allegedly committed.
Mrs Muiru was testifying before Kibera Senior Principal magistrate Wanjiru Karanja in a case which the Kilimani police chief Gilbert Otieno, police reservist Dan Ochieng Were, police constable Gideon Kareiti Mukaria and four others were charged with obtaining Sh 2 million from her by trickery.
The prosecution is lead by Chief inspector William Kemboi while the accused are represented by Mr James Orengo and Mr Cecil Miller. The hearing continues.
