State prosecutor Cecil Miller handles Sh10m extortion case afresh

A man who allegedly tried to extort Ksh 10 million before violently robbing two doctors was yesterday charged for the offence for the third time in a decade. Mr Stephen Mungti Mwangi appeared before Kibera chief magistrate Ms Uniter Kidula under a tight security. State prosecutor Cecil Miller said Mr Mwangi robbed Dr Karim Mohammed and his brother, Dr Amin Mo-hammed, of Sh250,000 while threatening to shoot them with a pistol.

The offence was allegedly committed at Aculaser Clinic In Parklands, Nairobi, on Feb 6, 2001. He allegedly demanded Sh10 million, saying he had been paid Sh5 million to kill them. But Mr Mwangi, who has been convicted twice for the robbery, denied the offense, The retrial was ordered by Mr Justice Mohammed War-same, who dismissed his application to he acquitted on the grounds that police kept him in custody for more than 14 days 10 years ago.
