A bank at the centre of the Sh791 million National Youth Service scandal yesterday requested to give evidence before a parliamentary committee in
camera, citing customer confidentiality. The lawyer for Family Bank, Mr Cecil Miller told Public Accounts Committee to consider banking prudential guidelines on customer confidentiality and allow the bank’s chief executive officer David Thuku to give evidence in camera.
“We request that the entire session be held in camera given the issues at hand are under investigations. It will also enable the bank to answer all the questions candidly,” he said. But Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, questioned the bank’s decision, wondering what was “so special” with the evidence.
Suba MP John Mbadi and Teso North’s Arthur Odera urged PAC Chair Nicholas Gumbo to give the management of the bank the benefit of the doubt that the request was given in good faith.
