Prove Karen land is yours, invaders told

National Land Commission chairman Muhammad Swazuri Sunday challenged those who have invaded the 134-acre plot in Karen valued at Sh8 billion to prove their ownership.

An investigative report by the Sunday Nation revealed that at least 40 MPs are among the beneficiaries of the land, which has been sub-divided into 189 plots. Developers are already on the site.

At the centre of the dispute is city businessman Horatius Da Gama Rose and former National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Managing Trustee Jose Konzolo, the owner of a company called Telesource, which has said it owns the vast land.

But speaking at his Waa Village home in Kwale, Dr Swazuri said according to their records, the private owner of the said land was Da Gama Rose’s company, Muchanga Investments Limited.

“From our records, the owner is none other than Muchanga Investments Limited so what I am reading from the media is baffling because the commission is not aware that the sub-divisions were done. They were done without our approval,” he added.

Saying the agency has already received complaints from the owner’s lawyers, Dr Swazuri said the commission was working on it.

MORE PROTECTION

The owner, according to the chairman, had recently placed a caveat advertisement in local dailies warning people to keep off the land because it was private property.

“Disregarding the law is the height of impunity,” he said.

Dr Swazuri warned that openly defying court orders could lead to anarchy.

Meanwhile, the chairman said he feared for his life after gangsters recently tried to enter his Nairobi premises.

The government has posted police to all his homes.
